Abstract: Persistence diagrams (finite sets of points in the plane) represent topological information of a dataset at different scales and are one of the main tools of Topological Data Analysis (TDA). The two distances which often need to be computed in TDA are bottleneck and Wasserstein distances. The problem of their computation is reduced to finding bottleneck and minimum-weight matching in a bipartite graph, where an edge's weight is its length. For bottleneck matching it was known in theory that exploiting the geometric nature of the graph can improve the complexity. After giving necessary definitions I will explain how we implemented geometric variants of the Hopcroft--Karp algorithm for bottleneck matching (based on previous work by Efrat el al.) and (if time permits) of the auction algorithm by Bertsekas for Wasserstein distance computation and discuss their performance in practice.
